Obesity

Obesity is the world leading health problem of 21 st century. Until recently, obesity was considered more as esthetic problem. Obesity is closely related to many health problems such as: hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, heart problems, diabetes type II, cholestiazis, malignant diseases, degenerative arthritis, psychological problems, life quality is reduced and mortality increased.
Treat Obesity using Functional Medicine

The following functional tests can offer us details for creating an effective treatment for every individual.

Test of Organic Acid Metabolites: By measuring different metabolites in the urine we are looking at the important metabolic pathways: fatty acid metabolism, carbohydrate metabolism, energy metabolism (Kreb’s cycle), vitamin B complex markers, methylation markers, neurotransmitter markers, antioxidant markers, toxicity and de-tox markers, gastrointestinal bacteria and yeast markers.
Test Thyroid Hormones: As main regulators of metabolism, thyroid hormones have an absolute influence on weight regulation as they control carbohydrate and fat burning.
Adrenal Stress Test: Adrenal stress test offering a status important stress hormones such as DHEA and Cortisol. One of the functions of cortisol is to trigger a glucocorticoid effect--helping the body produce blood sugar from proteins. Excess glucose is then used for lipogenesis (fat production). Thus, numerous research has linked over secretion of cortisol with obesity and increased fat storage in the body. Low DHEA is closely related to weight gain. Proper adrenal function is also necessary to convert the T4 to T3 (active thyroid hormone). Consequently, adrenal dysfunction can lead to hypothyroidism, lowered metabolic rate, and weight gain.
Test of Insulin Resistance: Insulin is hormone secreted by pancreas. It is essential for proper glucose utilization in the body. Obesity induces insulin resistance. Insulin resistance occurs when the normal amount of insulin secreted by the pancreas is not able to unlock the door to cells.  To maintain normal blood glucose, the pancreas secretes additional insulin.  In some cases (about 1/3 of the people with insulin resistance), when the body cells resist or do not respond to even high levels of insulin, glucose builds up in the blood resulting in high blood glucose or type 2 diabetes According to the research insulin resistance can result in weight gain and can be closely associated with difficulty to loose weigh. 5

Ortho MediCare offers functional testing in collaboration with World leading laboratories from USA and Belgium. After the result we propose test result interpretation and nutritional therapy support.
